Google as a search engine has all but monopolized the ecommerce landscape. Since most consumers use them to search for the products and services they want or need, Google may take advantage of this fact to maximize profits. There has been recent price inflation in the way of cost per click, which is the amount of money that a company has to pay whenever someone interacts with one of their ads.
Because companies have to pay more to compete with other
businesses and fake profiles at the top of Google search results, this ends up
affecting their bottom line. Often, this results in less than honest sales tactics
to recoup losses. False advertisements and too-good-to-be-true pricing is often
used to entice customers and bring them into the shop where bait and switches
are commonly performed.
